Pizza Box Block Challenge, circa 2016

We have had great fun with the "Pizza Box Challenge"  again, during the past 14 months. Each participant  filled a Pizza box with fabrics of their choice, and then the boxes were swapped each month. At the end of 14 months, we shared food and the fun of the big reveal. The variety of blocks is quite amazing, and it's fun to see the themes developed by the choice of fabrics. This  really turned out to be a great learning experience for everyone, from beginners to more experienced quilters.

Special thanks go out to Debbie Hart and Diana Smead for keeping us organized and in line during the whole project, which was a monumental task.

 Here are the finished blocks:

January 12, 2015 Meeting

Our first meeting of the new year will be Monday, Jan. 12, at 1 PM at the First Baptist Church.

This will be the start of the 2015 Pizza Box Exchange. If you saw the blocks from 2014, I know you'll want to see the beginning of this year's exchange. There are so many different ideas, it's really exciting.

I've posted the Pizza Box Block guidelines on this website, along with the activities for this year up to March.
You'll find the calendar and the guidelines just below the banner at the top of the page.

Time for the Big Reveal!

We have had great fun with a"Pizza Box Challenge" this year. Eleven participants each filled a new Pizza box with fabrics of their choice, and then the boxes were swapped each month. At the end of 11 months, the blocks were revealed. There was much "oohing and aahing" and lots of smiles and happy faces. This turned out to be a great learning experience for everyone, from beginners to more experienced quilters.

 Here are the finished blocks:

Debbie Hart, who started the Challenge for all of us!

Diana Smead, who kept us organized - no easy task!

Bernice Peavyhouse, with Grandaughter Olivia
Jeanne Noud was unable to be with us, so her blocks came by themselves.
Justine Upchurch
Mary Curren
Jan Davis - I asked for Star blocks, and look at these beauties!

Sandy Brendel
Oliva and her Mom, Julie. Olivia chose the fabrics for these blocks.
Shannon Ownby, Fabrics n Quilts owner and our Hostess for the Reveal.

Sharon Lyons

We had so much fun with this swap, we'll be doing it again next year.  If your quilting group would like to try this, Shannon Ownby has posted excellent instructions on her blog, here.

Happy Quilting, everyone!

No Meeting May 26!

Because our next regular meeting day falls on Memorial Day, we've  decided to cancel it. We're thinking that many of you have activities and family events that day.

We'll meet again on June 9, the second Monday in June, for fun with more Pizza Box Blocks, and a Flying Geese demo.

I will send another reminder, closer to that date.

Happy Quilting,

March 10 Meeting

Our Meeting will start at 1 PM this time.

Please remember to bring your Pizza Box Blocks to exchange.

Diana and Debbie will be showing us some of the ways to use Rulers in our quilting.

We'll also be discussing our trip to the Pigeon Forge Quilt Show.

We had a great time at the last meeting, learning to make "Round the Twist". Debbie kept us all going on the right track, which was a challenge! Thank you Deb, for planning and teaching this project!

Here's Debbie's original quilt. Her sweet applique is a great addition and inspiration.

Here are samples of work finished in class. It's always inspiring to see different colorways. Thanks again, Debbie, for making the class possible!
